Our Strength in the New Era: Our Export Family
We left June behind with an intense pace, strong solidarity and developments that filled us with pride. With the honouring presence of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we held our 33rd Ordinary General Assembly and our “Champions of Export” Award Ceremony. At the ceremony, our President heralded the increase of the daily limit for rediscount credits to 5 billion liras.
The increase in the rediscount limit is, undoubtedly, highly significant for our export family. However, as I underlined at the award ceremony, we need new strategies and new decisions through which we will reclaim our competitiveness. Therefore, different steps that will meet this need must be taken as soon as possible, without any further loss of time.
At our General Assembly, I had the honour of being elected President of the TİM for a second term with the favour of our delegates. I extend my heartfelt thanks to every member of our export family for the trust they have placed in me. We are aware of the responsibility that this trust imposes on us. We closed each of our first four years with records. Yet we cannot be content with breaking records alone. We must accelerate in line with our goal of elevating Türkiye among the top 10 countries in exports. In the new era, we will focus on projects that will increase the added value of exports, enhance the competitiveness of our companies, facilitate our access to new markets and further strengthen the Türkiye brand on a global scale.
In June, during which we delivered a strong performance, we achieved exports worth 24.9 billion dollars. Following the nearly 10 percent decline in May, we regard the 21.8 percent increase we achieved last month as highly valuable. Thus, our six-month exports approached 136 billion dollars, while our exports over the last 12 months neared 278 billion dollars. We are up by 3.6 percent in the six-month period and by 4.1 percent over the last 12 months. The picture that emerged in a month when parity negatively affected our exports for the first time in 14 months clearly reveals the labour of our export family and its unwavering will not to abandon production.
A positive outlook also emerged in our exports to the Gulf countries, alongside strengthening hopes for peace. In June, our exports to the region increased by 41 percent, reaching 2 billion 641 million dollars. It is pleasing that our exports to all countries in the region have returned to positive territory. We believe that, should lasting peace be secured, we will encounter a much stronger picture in the second half of the year.
Of course, preserving the current performance alone is not sufficient. As the rules of global trade change rapidly, we, too, must renew ourselves at the same pace. With this understanding, we continue trade diplomacy without interruption. In June, we carried out 9 trade delegations, participated in 32 fairs and conducted 4 Ur-Ge activities. In July, we will bring our exporters together with new business partners in the United Kingdom and Uganda.
In this new era, which we have begun with the trust and support of our export family, we will continue to work with the same determination and resolve to carry Türkiye further forward in exports.
