Türkiye Reaches the Highest Monthly Export Figure with $23.4 Billion in June
Export increased by 20 percent in the first 6 months and approached $126 billion
Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) announced the export data for June 2022. In June, export amounted to $ 23.4 billion, an increase of 18.5 percent compared to the same month last year. With this figure, the highest monthly export figure of all time was reached, breaking the monthly record in 20 of the last 22 months.
- In June, 20 sectors increased their exports. While the Chemical Sector, which exported $3.2 billion, ranked first, the Automotive Sector, which reached $ 2.7 billion, came second, and the Steel Sector, which exceeded $ 2.3 billion, came third. The Steel Sector was followed by the Ready-to-Wear Sector, which exported 2 billion dollars, and the Electrical-Electronics Sector with 1.4 billion dollars of exports.
- While 61 cities increased their exports in June, the top 3 cities with the most export became Istanbul with 9.2 billion dollars, Kocaeli with 1.9 billion dollars, and Bursa with 1.6 billion dollars. Adana, Muğla, and Balıkesir were the cities that reached records in exports.
- The export family, which managed to fly the Turkish flag in 215 countries and regions, succeeded in increasing its exports to 160 countries. The top 3 exporting countries with the most exports in June were Germany with $1.87 billion, the United States with $1.55 billion, and Iraq with $1.21 billion. Record levels were reached in exports to 18 countries.
- 1,905 companies joined the export family by exporting for the first time this month.
- The unit export value increased by 9 percent compared to the same period last year to $ 1.41. Based on the quantity, export increased by 9 percent compared to the previous month and reached 16.6 million tons.

Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), which is the only umbrella organization of more than 100 thousand exporters with its 61 Exporters' Associations and 27 sectors, working for the growth of the Turkish economy and being among the world giants, announced the foreign trade data for June with the participation of Trade Minister Mehmet Muş at the meeting held by the Eastern Anatolia Exporters Association (DAİB) at the service building in Erzurum. According to the announced data, the Turkish exporters, who are the field workers of Türkiye's economy and trade diplomacy, exported $23.4 billion in June, reaching the highest monthly export figure of all time. With these figures, a record was broken in export in 20 of the last 22 months.
TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe, who attended the first Foreign Trade Evaluation Meeting after being elected at the 29th Ordinary General Assembly of Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), stated that he was very pleased to be in Erzurum and that today has special importance for them as they held the first foreign trade evaluation meeting as the new management of TİM.
In June, the all-time high monthly export record was broken
Stating that the export family achieved a historical record in the first month of the new period of Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe said, “Our export in June increased by 18 percent to reach 23.4 billion dollars, which was the highest monthly export figure to date. In the first 6 months, this figure increased by 20 percent to close to $ 126 billion. Our 12-month exports exceeded 246 billion dollars. We have broken monthly export records in 20 of the last 22 months. Our pioneering forecasts show that we will continue our way without slowing down in the second half of the year and reach our year-end export target of 250 billion dollars before completing the year. I congratulate our entire export family on behalf of this outstanding performance.”
The chemical sector ranked first in the export
Sharing the details about the export figures, TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe gave the following information:
“When we look at the details of our figures, we see that exactly 20 sectors have increased their exports. This month, our top 5 sectors were Chemical with 3.2 billion dollars, Automotive with 2.7 billion dollars, Steel with 2.3 billion dollars, Ready-to-Wear with 2 billion dollars, and electrical-electronics with 1.4 billion dollars of exports, respectively. Our cereals and furniture paper forest products sectors have achieved the highest export figures so far. Our grain sector exported 1 billion dollars for the first time monthly basis.”
In addition, TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe, who pointed out that they increased exports in motor vehicles, aluminum products, and iron and steel goods product groups at remarkable levels, said that exports increased by 825 million dollars in the top 10 product groups that recorded the most increase this month.
In June, 61 cities increased their exports, and 3 cities broke records in exports
TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe, who stated that 61 cities showed success in increasing their exports in June, stated that the 5 cities that realized the most export were İstanbul, Kocaeli, Bursa, İzmir, and Ankara, respectively. Stating that apart from these cities, the other cities that attract attention with their export increase are Bursa, Mersin, Sakarya, and Kayseri, TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe said, “Adana, Muğla, and Balıkesir cities were the 3 provinces that broke records this month with their powerful performances. In addition, our exporters within DAİB, whose headquarters we are at today, increased their exports by 10 percent and signed an export of 255 million dollars. I congratulate all our provinces on behalf of this successful performance.”
Increased exports to 160 countries
Saying that this month Turkish exporters managed to fly Turkish flag in 215 countries and regions and it has increased their exports to 160 countries, TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe continued: “The top 5 countries we export to the most were Germany, the United States, Iraq, the United Kingdom, and Italy. In addition to these countries, there are significant increases in our exports to Romania, the United Arab Emirates, and South Africa. We reached record levels in exports to 18 countries, including Russia, South Korea, Argentina, and India.”
TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe informed that exports of $13 billion to European countries, $3.9 billion to Near and Middle East countries, $2.3 billion to the African continent, $1.8 billion to North America, and $1.7 billion to the Far East countries were realized in the country groups.
10 percent increase on a quantity basis
Noting that exports based on quantity increased by 10 percent compared to the previous month and reached 16.6 million tons, TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe stated that the unit export value increased by 9 percent to $1.41.

Stating that 1,905 companies joined the export family by exporting for the first time this month, TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe reported that the new companies exported 80 million dollars in June.

According to the latest data, industrial production increased by 10.8 percent year on year. The capacity utilization rate stood at 77.6 percent in June. In April, 408,000 new jobs were created. We hope that these pleasing developments will be beneficial to our country.”

Stating that some macro-prudential measures have been put into practice in recent days regarding the use of commercial loans and rediscount loans to stabilize the Turkish lira against exchange rates, TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe stated that as the Turkish Exporters Assembly, they are following the steps taken with great attention. TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe said, “With the rapid increase in our export, our financing needs are increasing accordingly. Last week, we held our TİM Extended Board of Governors meeting with the participation of our Central Bank Governor Mr. Şahap Kavcıoğlu, and our sector representatives. At the meeting, we discussed in detail a wide range of issues from export financing to macro-prudential measures implemented in the new period. With common sense and consultation, we shared the demands for the needs of our sectors with our Central Bank Governor.”

Stating that the normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia, which is an important market for Türkiye, will bring new opportunities, TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe said, “We have seen the positive reflections of the developments in bilateral relations in our export figures this month. Our exports to Saudi Arabia increased by 63 percent and reached 25 million dollars. As we enter a period of increasing recession concerns on a global scale, the importance of close and reliable trade is growing more than ever. Our country needs to produce geopolitical solutions in its close geography in this process in order not to be affected by a possible global contraction.”

DAİB's new headquarters is at the service of exporters
The opening ceremony was held in the new service building of the Eastern Anatolia Exporters Association (DAİB), which was completed and put into operation before the program. The opening ceremony was attended by Trade Minister Mehmet Muş, Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) Chairman Mustafa Gültepe, as well as TİM Vice Presidents and Union Presidents.
