The Türkiye-Canada Trade Delegation Was Held in Toronto
The Türkiye Exporters Assembly and the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters Association organized a general-purpose trade delegation to Toronto, Canada. Coordinated by the Ministry of Trade, the event saw Turkish and Canadian firms engage in over 150 bilateral business meetings.
The Türkiye Exporters Assembly and the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters Association organized a trade delegation to Toronto, Canada, one of Canada's largest trade centers, from April 28 to May 1, 2024. Led by Deputy Chairman Adil Pelister, the delegation included 15 Turkish exporting firms from 9 different sectors.
The organization aimed to establish new collaborations for Turkish companies, conduct market research, and increase the volume of foreign trade between the two countries. Over 50 Canadian firms participated in the event. Delegation Chairman Adil Pelister, TİM Board Member Burak Yakın, Turkish Consul General in Toronto Can Yoldaş, Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) Vice Chairman S. Louie DiPalma, and Canada-Türkiye Business Council (CTBC) Chairman Gar Knutson addressed the participants at the opening program before the B2B meetings.
In his opening speech, Delegation Chairman Adil Pelister expressed Türkiye's wish to establish stronger and more solid economic ties with Canada. He also stated their goal to create better business opportunities for both sides, saying:
“Although Türkiye is a member of the EU Customs Union, it is not part of CETA. Therefore, if we want to further increase our bilateral trade, there should be a Free Trade Agreement between the two countries. Continuing negotiations is crucial. In such a liberal world, it is hard to understand why two strong economies like Türkiye and Canada would impose trade barriers on each other.”
Following the opening speeches, Turkish and Canadian companies came together at the B2B event for business meetings. Representatives from Turkish and Canadian firms conducted over 150 bilateral business meetings at the event.
