The September export figures were announced in Ankara by Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat and Chairman of the Türkiye Exporters Assembly (TİM) Mustafa Gültepe.
TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe stated that with 22.6 billion dollars, they achieved the highest September export performance ever. Emphasizing that for the first time, nine-month exports exceeded 200 billion dollars, Gültepe said:
“According to the General Trade System (GTS) records, we realized 22.6 billion dollars of exports in September. Compared to the same month of last year, we are up by 3 percent. In the January–September period, our nine-month exports reached 200.6 billion dollars, while our exports over the last 12 months rose to 269.7 billion dollars. We are up by 4.1 percent in nine-month exports and 3.2 percent in annualized exports. We estimate that our service exports in September will be around 12.3 billion dollars. Looking at sectors specifically, automotive sustained its leadership with 3.7 billion dollars. Automotive was followed by chemicals with 2.5 billion dollars, electrical-electronics with 1 billion 517 million dollars, steel with 1 billion 497 million dollars, and ready-to-wear and apparel with 1 billion 491 million dollars. In total, 15 of our sectors increased their exports, while 11 recorded declines. The five provinces with the highest export volumes were İstanbul, Kocaeli, Bursa, Ankara, and İzmir. In September, 1,030 of our companies carried out exports for the first time. The parity effect contributed 592.2 million dollars to our exports last month. The countries we exported to the most were Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, and Iraq. We achieved increases above 50 percent in 45 countries and over 10 percent in 100 countries. Overall, we boosted our exports to 123 countries.”
“We must secure contributions from all sectors”
Commenting on current developments, Mustafa Gültepe highlighted the ongoing challenges in broadening the export base. Stressing that sustainable growth in exports requires contributions from all sectors, Gültepe continued:
“Nevertheless, we continue to do our utmost and pursue new markets. In September, we organized general trade delegations to Mexico, Kuwait, and the Philippines. Together with sectoral trade delegations and fair participations, we visited 28 countries. In October, for general trade delegations, we will be in the United States, Canada, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Panama, Kenya, and Colombia. Through sectoral trade delegations and fairs, we will carry out visits to 30 countries. We are also requesting from our esteemed minister a 15-point increase in support for overseas trade delegations and fairs.”
Mustafa Gültepe added that, with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, they will hold Türkiye Innovation Week between October 9–11, and that they particularly invite young people to the event at the Haliç Congress Center.
