İsmail Gülle, Chairman of Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), said at the opening of Türkiye's first 3D Virtual Automotive Fair 'Auto Expo Türkiye 2020', “In November, when restrictions started again in our important markets and consumption decreased significantly in some sectors, our automotive sector exported 2 billion 698 million dollars. Even though it was 0.3 percent compared to the same month last year, it was very important that the sector exports increased and quickly captured the pre-pandemic export figures. The exports of this sector and its share of all our total exports were 16.8 percent. We continue to walk confidently to $165.9 billion, our total export target for 2020.”
The Automotive sector, which is the engine of Turkish exports; In November 2020, despite the contraction in global markets in the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, it increased its exports compared to the same month last year. Gülle, “Global trade is trying to get over the impact of the demand shock that may occur perhaps every 100 years. In our country, the rapid adaptation of our business world to this difficult process brought positive developments on behalf of our exports. Pandemic has accelerated the steps taken for the adaptation of the business world to the digital world, which we always focus on. As a result of our successful delegations in 43 countries with 36 delegations, hundreds of our companies conducted nearly 6,000 bilateral job interviews. With the intense interest of our exporters in virtual trade delegations, we will continue to use our experience on virtual platforms effectively in our exports.” he said.
“We are walking confidently towards our 2020 export target”
TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle reminded the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) data that global trade contracted by 19 percent in the second quarter of the year compared to the same period of the previous year, and that the expectation of a contraction in global trade for 2020 was 7 percent. Stating that one of the sectors expected to contract significantly for this year is the automotive sector, Gülle said, “However, in November, when restrictions started again in our important markets and consumption decreased significantly in some sectors, we continued our successful momentum. It was very important that our automotive sector increased its exports in November, even if it was 0.3 percent. Thanks to the efforts of our exporters, we closed last September and October with historical records despite the pandemic. Our country has been one of the 4 countries that increased its exports in the third quarter of the year. We continue to walk confidently to our 2020 Export target of $165.9 billion. Of course, it was very important that the automotive sector, which was among the sectors most affected by the pandemic in these records and achievements, quickly captured the pre-pandemic export figures.”
“Reforms period will accelerate investments”
Emphasizing that the share of the automotive sector's exports of $2.698 billion in November 2020 was 16.8 percent of all total exports, Gülle said, “This figure has been a very pleasing development in the name of compensation for the losses caused by the pandemic. Our automotive sector has a vital role in achieving “Türkiye, that gives foreign trade surplus” target. In this sense, investments are of special importance to our automotive sector. We believe that the period of reforms announced by our President will accelerate investments in our sector. The new investment news we have received recently confirms our expectations.”Gülle made the following assessment about Auto Expo 2020 Fair: “I believe that the Auto Expo 2020 Exhibition, where visitors from 62 countries will attend, bilateral business meetings will be organized with 76 companies from 29 countries, and virtual conferences will be held in 360-degree exhibition halls, will create new business opportunities, and add strength to the strength of our automotive industry. Hopefully, we will add new ones to our achievements by determining sectoral trends well in the new period. I wish to be auspicious of our fair on the way to Türkiye that rising with exports.”
