The awards were presented to the top 10 companies that exported the most in Türkiye last year, by President Erdoğan. According to this, the total export of the companies in the top 1000 were 92.6 billion dollars, and their share in total export was 54.6 percent. 78.9 percent of the top 1000 companies consisted of domestic companies. These companies accounted for 59.3 percent of the total export of the top 1000 companies. 57.5% of the top 1000 companies were in located the Marmara region. The province with the highest number of companies on the list in 2020 was Istanbul with 426. Automotive Industry accounted for 23.8 percent of the total export in the Top 1000 exporters list on a sector basis, Chemicals and Products for 10.7 percent, Steel for 10.5 percent, Ready-to-Wear and Apparels for 9.4 percent, and Electric-Electronics sectors for 8,4 percent. The top 1,000 exporters created a total of nearly 1 million jobs.
Speaking at the board meeting, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, "In the 80s, our annual export was 3 billion dollars; Today we realize this figure in just two days. In the 90s, our annual export was 15 billion dollars; Today we reach this figure in a month. Under the leadership of our President, industrial and investment moves, which were made with great courage and vision, carried our export to 100 billion dollars in the 2000s and 150 billion dollars in the 2010s. Despite the global pandemic, we will raise the Republic's historical record, which we broke with $180 billion in 2019, to $211 billion in 2021, and $300 billion in 2026. The export is our pride in the world arena. Today, Türkiye is on the verge of a structural change in production and export and a strong growth."
28th Ordinary General Assembly of TİM, which is the only umbrella organization of 100 thousand exporters with 61 exporters' associations and 27 sectors in Türkiye and working at full speed for the goal of 'Türkiye Giving a Foreign Trade Surplus', and the 2020 Champions of Export Award Ceremony were held in İstanbul with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and hosted by TİM President İsmail Gülle. At the board meeting, TİM also promoted the "Top 1000 Exporters of Türkiye 2020 Prestige Book" and shared the results of the research.
President Erdoğan presents the awards to the top 10 champions
To the General Assembly; Trade Minister Mehmet Muş, Treasury, and Finance Minister Lütfi Elvan, Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu, as well as members of the TİM Sector Council, Heads of Exporters' Associations, representatives of public, private and non-governmental organizations, and company executives attended. The awards were presented to the top 10 companies, that exported the most in Türkiye last year by President Erdoğan. The top 10 companies which are awarded by exporting the most last year, became respectively, Ford Automotive Industry, Toyota Automotive Industry Türkiye, Oyak-Renault Automobile Factories, Vestel Trade, Kibar Foreign Trade, Arçelik, TGS Foreign Trade, Tofaş Turkish Automobile Factories, Turkish Oil Refineries and Mercedes-Benz Türk. The ceremony also awarded the most exporting companies of 28 sectors.
"We will carry our export to 300 billion dollars with certain steps"
In his speech at the ceremony, İsmail Gülle, chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, noted the success of the Turkish exporters, which are the field workers of the country's economy and trade diplomacy. Emphasizing that the export family, that flies the Turkish flag all around the world, is walking confidently to new records, Gülle said, "The export route is a long way. It is an arduous, combative road. We know, our job is not easy, but we also know that no difficulties, no crises, big export are strong enough to deter our family. We promise to continue to break new export records in the history of the Republic. In 2021, we reached historical peaks in all data covering production and export, from confidence indices to industrial production. 10.8 points, or half, of the 21.7 percent growth in the second quarter of the year came from export. Thus, Türkiye became the second-largest growing country among OECD countries. We exporters who make the greatest contribution to this success; Despite the global pandemic, we will move the republic's historical record, which we broke with $180 billion in 2019, to $211 billion in 2021 and $300 billion in 2026. We have that potential, this belief, this effort. The data and the facts point to that. God willing, there is no turning back from this point. I congratulate my colleagues and valuable exporters who made these goals possible and made our flag fly all over the world, running from country to country with his suitcase in hand and doing this not for himself, but his employees, for their families, for his children, and working day and night to bring our country to the level of contemporary civilizations.”
"Türkiye is on the verge of a strong rise"
Pointing out that Türkiye is a country that has taken a share of more than one percent of global export today and has stepped into the next league in production and export, Gülle said, "In the 80s, our annual export were 3 billion dollars, and today we realize this figure in just 2 days. While our annual export in the 90s was 15 billion dollars, today we reach this figure in a month. Under the leadership of our President, industrial and investment moves, which were made with great courage and vision, carried our export to 100 billion dollars in the 2000s and 150 billion dollars in the 2010s. Today, Türkiye has increased its value-added, innovative, high-tech, and branded export, reached 100 thousand exporters, and diversified its products and export markets. Today, with our drones, armed drones (SİHA) and Turkish Drones (TİHA), flying in the skies, Türkiye now shows that structural change in production and export is on the verge of strong growth."
"We are an important agent in global trade"
Noting that Türkiye has become an important agent in global trade by capturing extraordinary opportunities through the restructuring of the global supply chain, Gülle said, “The world has now adopted a multipolar production and supply chain, including Türkiye, rather than unipolar. We see and experience the advantages of this new understanding that emerges today. Of course, we are aware of the risks as well as the opportunities that await us. As TİM, we are working hard to turn these risks into opportunities. First, we are implementing the Turkish Logistics Portal, which will serve as a digital bridge between our exporters and the logistics sector to find a solution to the container crisis on a global scale. Hopefully, we will share our portal with the public next week and make it available to our exporters.
All around the world, service sectors were among the sectors most affected by the pandemic. As a result of the fast and successful vaccination campaign, our country increased its service export by 46 percent to $24.8 billion in the first 7 months of the year. Our goal is to exceed 100 billion dollars in our service export. To achieve this goal, we would like to thank our Minister of Commerce Mehmet Muş for implementing the General Directorate of International Service Trade in response to the request of our Parliament. Hopefully next year, we will set new records in our service export as well as our goods export.
"We continue to make firsts"
Noting that as TİM, the export family continues to work with all its might for Türkiye's prosperous future with the support and leadership of the President, Gülle said, “With the awareness of our great responsibility, we are breaking new records. We want to carry out Türkiye's first export council in February 2022 with the honor of our President. On the other hand, we want to benefit from the abundance of the consultation and to shape the future of our export. In addition, to spread export to the base and introduce more entrepreneurs to export, we organized TİM-SME export mobilization training programs all over Türkiye for the first time. We also see the positive results of our training clearly in the figures. An average of 1,500 companies joins our family every month and contribute about $100 million to our export every month. Our number of exporters, which was 65 thousand in 2018, has exceeded 100 thousand with great momentum today.
The export family does everything by measuring it. Because if we cannot measure it, we cannot manage it, we know that. "Not only quantity is enough, but we must also increase the quality of our export", we carry out projects that will increase the added-value of our export with our InovaTİM, İnovaLİG, InoSuit, and TİM-TEB enterprise houses. We have made Türkiye Innovation Week, in which we started to spread the awareness of innovation, a competing organization on a global scale. We have recently expanded our consultation mechanism to do extraordinary and ingenious work.”
"We founded TİM Women's Council and Young TİM"
We established our "TİM Brand Council" with representatives of our country's precious brands with the motto "Every country is as rich as the brands it owns". Our Council continues its efforts to increase the number of our national brands, branded export, and export unit value. At the same time, we established GençTİM to ensure sustainability in our export, to bring our young people to the export family, and to raise the young generation of the export people of the future. We are aware that sustainable development with the slogan "Strong Women, Strong Export, Strong Türkiye" is only possible with our women. With this awareness, we established the "TİM Women's Council", which is the first in the history of our Assembly.
When the negative effects of climate change were added to the pandemic process, the whole world saw once again the importance of agricultural production and self-sufficiency. Thanks to our strong production infrastructure, our country has not had any problems at the point of supply. To emerge from the negative processes that may occur in the coming period with the same success, we should plant every arable land in our country at the point of agriculture; we must protect all our resources, especially water, by expanding sustainable agriculture, new irrigation, and agricultural techniques.
"We will follow the green transformation efforts"
However, we see those global economies, which are our export market, are doing a few bindings works for green transformation. Among them, the arrangement that will affect us the most is undoubtedly the European Green Agreement... Within the framework of the Green Reconciliation Action Plan prepared by the Ministry of Commerce, we, as an export family, make the highest contribution to the process. In this context, we shared with the public our TİM Sustainability Action Plan roadmap prepared with our TİM Women's Council with the motto "To produce for the world without consuming the world". We have implemented the Sustainability Science Committee in the TİM Industry, the first of our 12 objectives in our action plan. Hopefully, together with all our sectors, we will follow the green transformation efforts by implementing our step-by-step action plan.
Together with our general assembly, we will present the awards to the champions of our export, the dynamo of our country's export. Today is not just another day for us to reward winners. Today is the exporters' day. Today is the day of complimenting the ingenuity of those who add value to Türkiye and reveal their hearts.
Together with our general assembly, we will present the awards to the champions of our country's export dynamo. Today is not just any day for us to award awards to those who have succeeded. Today is the day of export, exporters. Today is a day of compliments to the ingenuity of those who add value to Türkiye and those who put their heart on the line.
"The top 1000 exporters provided a total of close to 1 million jobs"
Also, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle promoted "Türkiye's first 1000 Exporters 2020 Prestige Book" and shared the results of this research. Noting that the first 1000 exporters realized 55 percent of the total export with 93 billion dollars, Gülle said, “We always express that employment will increase with export. The contribution of our top 1000 exporters to employment once again showed this fact. According to the results of our research, our top 1000 exporters provided 1000 jobs per company, providing a total of close to 1 million jobs. However, the fact that our exporters from 50 provinces are among the top 1000 shows that our export is spreading throughout the country. This year, 169 of our companies took their place in the top 1000 Exporters List and became partners in this excitement. We congratulate them wholeheartedly. All 831 of our companies managed to maintain their place on the list. It is hard to be big, but it's harder to stay big. Congratulations to them, too. The newcomers to the list show the opportunities created by Türkiye, and those who have remained on the list for a very long time show the stability of our country."
"R&D expenditure exceeded 12 billion Turkish Liras"
Stating that the first 1000 exporters spent more than 12 billion Turkish Liras in R&D in 2020, Gülle said, “The indispensable reality for export is R&D. The point I would like to underline especially at the point of R&D is our companies with R&D centers made export 73 percent more than other companies...”
And “We continue our innovation and R&D studies with the belief that Türkiye will rise with export and export with innovation.” he said.
"Our dream is to establish an international exhibition center for our exporters to İstanbul"
Emphasizing president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's support for the export family, İsmail Gülle continued: We are grateful that all 122 requests of our exporters to our government in the last 2 years have been resolved immediately. Our export is increasing in the way that our president has opened to us, it means we are moving in the right direction. Our number of exporters is increasing, so we are arousing the excitement of export in all sectors. Our export unit value is rising, so we increase the added value of our products with branding, innovation, design. We have a dream that will add value to our country and exporter. We want to establish an international exhibition center in İstanbul where our exporters can proudly exhibit their products to meet the needs of our exporters... And for this dream, as an export family, we are ready to do whatever it takes.
"We promised our president"
“While our export is rising with great momentum, the financing needs of our exporters are increasing at the same pace. The rise in global raw material and energy markets also negatively affects the input costs of our companies, creating an additional financing need.”
“And therefore, taking steps that will strengthen Eximbank's resources, facilitate our exporters' access to finance, and develop methods that do not require collateral for our exporters will contribute significantly to the current account balance of our country. We firmly believe that these issues will be resolved as soon as possible with the support of our government, especially our President.”
“The export family is a community that is familiar with records and whose resistance against the pandemic has been registered. TİM, the only umbrella organization of this family in Türkiye, continues this path with the same faith and enthusiasm today as it was yesterday. Undoubtedly, it will achieve great success with our youth, women, brands, and technology also tomorrow. We always say: Export is our duty, export is our debt, export is our future, export is our stability, export is our strength. We promised our president once, we will never backpedal. Because export is our pride in the world arena.”
