Exports of Turkish exporters, who make exports in Turkish Lira to 200 countries and regions under the leadership of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), exceeded ₺25 billion. In the five months of this year, it was noteworthy that the number of new participants in the export family exceeded 7 thousand.
TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, "We are stronger in the global market now. We see the benefits of the restructuring process accelerated by the pandemic in global supply chains. In each of our sectors, while the demand for our exported goods increases, the Turkish brand has become stronger. In the first five months of this year, exports in Turkish Lira increased by 58 percent compared to the same period the previous year and reached ₺25.5 billion. Iraq ranked first with ₺4.4 billion in exports. In May, exports in TL increased by 74 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching ₺4.75 billion. In five months in this year, the number of companies exporting for the first time reached 7,577. The fact that these companies have signed 773 million dollars in exports shows that we have progressed towards our export target of 200 billion dollars steadily.”
Turkish exporters are achieving historic successes despite the contraction of demand in global trade and shrinkage of world economies due to the pandemic. The export family, which has carried out the V-type recovery in exports by rapidly adapting to unusual conditions, flies the Turkish flag all over the world. The Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), the only umbrella organization of 100 thousand exporters with 61 exporter associations and 27 sectors, continues its efforts at full speed to achieve its export target and strengthen the 'Made in Türkiye' brand in the world. TİM's continued support for the use of the Turkish Lira (TL) in bilateral trade has increased exports in TL and the number of countries that use the Turkish Lira. In the first five months of this year, exports in TL increased by 58 percent compared to the same period the previous year and reached ₺25.5 billion. That was made exports in TL to 200 countries and regions in different geographies of the world.
Increasing in exports with TL reached 74 percent
Emphasizing the increase in exports in TL in the first five months of this year and in May, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, "Our export family; In January-May, it exported worth 85 billion 220 million dollars, an increase of 38.3 percent compared to the same period earlier year. Thus, we achieved the highest first five months of exports in the history of the Republic. In the last 12 months, we have exported worth 193 billion 267 million dollars, reaching a level above our annual export target of over 184 billion dollars. Hopefully, we will get together the target of 200 billion dollars which we are walking steadily. What makes us most happy with these results is the increase in exports in TL. In the first five months exports in TL reached ₺25.5 billion, by 58 percent up compared to the same period earlier year. Here we see that thousands of our companies prefer the Turkish Lira. According to the first five months of this year, we exported Turkish Lira to 200 countries and regions. In the January-May period, the top five countries, which make exports with TL, became respectively, Iraq with ₺4.4 billion, TRNC (Northern Cyprus) with ₺1.75 billion, Germany with ₺1.72 billion, Syria with ₺1.36 billion, and Italy with ₺1.32 billion. Also, in May, it was exported worth ₺4.75 billion by 74 percent up compared to the same month the previous year. 6 thousand 235 companies in January, 6,159 in February, 7,175 in March, 7,628 in April, and 6,335 in May preferred the Turkish Lira for export transactions. We will continue to support the use of domestic currencies in bilateral trade.
"We are now a stronger situation in the global market"
Noting that they are now in a stronger position in the global market, Gülle said, "The disadvantages of abandoning the production infrastructure in critical industries with the effect of the pandemic by global value chains and adopting the strategy of distribution to the world producing in only one country with a low-price policy were experienced. It was seen that our exporters, who fulfilled their obligations internationally by producing and exporting in all conditions, put on a solid foundation the feature of the reliable supplier port of our country. We see the benefits of the restructuring process accelerated by the pandemic in global supply chains. In each of our sectors, while the demand for our exported goods increases, the Turkish brand has become stronger. As TİM, one of our missions is to strengthen the brand of 'Made in Türkiye' all around the world. In this respect, it is very important for us to increase our exports as well as to raise the brand perception of the country and to make it sustainable. We can say that at a time when global trade is slowing, to increase in the demand for our country is an indication that this perception has formed. To ensure making this demand is permanent, we are making works removing the obstacles for our exporter easy reach the market."
The number of people joining our export family is increasing
Stating that there has been an increase in the number of new participants in the export family, Gülle said, “Our export family continues to grow every day. Since taking office, we have been working with great speed in every corner of our country to bring new members and new exporters to our export family. In 2020, the most challenging period of the pandemic, 16,217 companies joined the export family for the first time. These companies have achieved a total export of 955 million 615 thousand dollars. In the first five months of this year, the number of companies exporting for the first time reached 7,577 despite the contraction of demand in global trade due to the pandemic and the shrinking of the world economies. The total export figure of all our companies, which said 'Hello!' to exports for the first time this year, was 773 million dollars. The success of these companies shows that we are moving forward to our export target of 200 billion dollars steadily."
Contribution of TİM SME Export Mobilization to exports
Recalling that they organized a "TİM SME Export Mobilization" program to encourage exports and to start the companies to make exports, Gülle continued, “We examined in detail many models implemented in the world to encourage exports and start exporting our companies. As a result of our work, "TİM SME Export Mobilization", which contained the firsts in its field, appeared. It has been about two years since our first training program. As a result of our training, an average of 1500 companies starts exporting every month. In the last two years, we have organized thirteen SME Export Mobilization Training, 12 of where are in our country and one on a digital platform in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. We designed our TİM SME Export Mobilization Training Programs for 3 target audiences. The first is the representatives of companies that already have their businesses and want to carry out export activities, the second is the companies that want to provide continuous export growth and the third is young entrepreneurs.”
