Double Record With $22.7 Billion In March Exports

“We Are $10 Billion-Plus in the First Quarter on the Way to $250 Billion”

Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) announced the export figures for March 2022. Turkish exporters closed March with new records as they did in the first 2 months of the year. According to the data released, Türkiye's export in March increased by 19.8 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching $22.7 billion. With these figures, Türkiye achieved the highest first-quarter performance and the highest monthly export figure in its history. The intense interest of the companies in export continued to be reflected in the number of exporters in March. In March, 1,986 companies joined the export family by exporting for the first time this month. Our exporters, who managed to fly the Turkish flag in 218 countries and regions, succeeded in increasing their exports to 159 countries. The top 3 countries, where our exporters exported the most in March, became Germany with $1.9 billion, the United States with $1.5 billion, and Italy with $1.2 billion. While 20 sectors increased their exports this month, the sectors, that realized the most exports, were Chemicals and products with 2.9 billion dollars, the automotive industry with 2.7 billion dollars, and the steel industry with 2.2 billion dollars.

Stating that the export family performed extremely successfully in the first quarter of the year, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, “We saw this again in our March figures. In order to reach our 2022 target of $250 billion, we had to increase our export by $2.1 billion every month compared to last year. As a result of the latest figures, we are $10 billion-plus in the first quarter on the road to $250 billion. It is extremely important that the current momentum continues to rise. We walk with great determination and faith to all our goals. We are walking towards all our goals with great determination and faith."

The export figures for March 2022 were announced to the public at a meeting in Ankara attended by T.C. Trade Minister Mehmet Muş and Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) Chairman İsmail Gülle. Türkiye's export in March increased by 19.8 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching $22.7 billion. According to these data, Turkish exporters, who are the field workers of Turkish economy and trade diplomacy, set a double record in March with historic success. With $22.7 billion in export in March, the highest first-quarter performance and highest monthly export figure in the history of the republic were achieved.

Speaking at the “March 2022 Foreign Trade Figures Press Release” meeting, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle stated that the export family had a very successful performance in the first quarter of the year and that they saw this again with the march figures released.

Double record set in the export

Commenting on the export figures for March, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle stated that the export family achieved a double record with a historic performance this month. TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, “Our exports in March were $22.7 billion, with an increase of 19.8 percent compared to the same month last year. With this figure, we managed to achieve the highest first-quarter performance and highest monthly export figure in our history. The import coverage ratio of our exports excluding energy increased to 95 percent.”

Emphasizing that Türkiye positively diverged from other countries in March and broke the republic's historical export record while export expectations in the world have fallen and uncertainties and risks have increased, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, “I congratulate each member of our export family and our precious presidents who contributed to this great success. At this point, our total exports exceeded 60 billion dollars in the first quarter of the year. In the current projection, these figures are extremely important on the road to our goals.”

The chemical industry ranks first in both fields

Stating that 20 sectors increased their exports in March, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle listed the most exporting sectors as follows: “This month, while our chemical sector, which exported close to 3 billion dollars, ranked first, our automotive sector, which reached 2.7 billion dollars, came second, and our steel sector came third with $2.3 billion.”

Saying that the most remarkable increases in sectoral terms were experienced in the chemical, steel, iron, and non-ferrous metals sectors, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said “Each of them increased their exports by almost 50 percent compared to last year. 9 of our sectors broke export records in March.”

The record was broken in exports to 33 countries, including the USA, Israel, and Germany

Stating that the export family managed to fly the Turkish flag in 218 countries and regions and increased its exports to 159 countries, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle stated that the top 3 countries, where Turkish exporters export the most, were Germany with $1.9 billion, the United States with $1.6 billion, and Italy with $1.3 billion.

Noting that they have set a record for exports to 33 countries including the United States, Israel, and Germany, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, “In addition, this month, we held trade delegations in Spain and Israel which are two important countries for our export. Buyers had a very strong demand for our Turkish companies. We have seen in these delegations that there is a serious demand and interest in our country not only in 1-2 specific sectors but also in all sectors. In March, our exports to Spain increased by 24 percent to $987 million and our exports to Israel increased by 40 percent to $738 million.”

TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle stated that export to the European Union, Türkiye's largest commercial market, increased by 27 percent to $10 billion and that the EU's share of exports was 44 percent. Gülle continued: “When we included other European countries other than the EU, the share of the European continent in our march exports was 54%. In addition, the effective implementation of the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge in export to the European Union, our largest market, was a historic step towards the delivery of our country's exports in the Aegean and Mediterranean to Europe. With the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, our logistics competence will increase even more and we will gain a significant advantage in exporting to Europe. We would like to express our gratitude to our esteemed President and our entire government for this important work that paved the way for our exports.”

TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle stated that in the non-European country groups, 4 billion dollars were exported to the Near and Middle East countries, 2.3 billion dollars to the entire African continent, 1.8 billion dollars to North America, and 1.6 billion dollars to the Far East countries.

1,986 companies said: “Hello" to export

Stating that the intense interest of the companies in export continues to be reflected in the number of exporter companies in 2022, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, “Our 1,986 companies joined our export family by exporting for the first time this month. Our new companies exported $105.7 million in March. This month, the number of exporting companies was 47,981.”

Stating that export on a quantity basis increased by 6 percent to 15.7 million tons, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, “In addition, a very positive momentum continues in our export unit price. Our unit export value increased by 13 percent to $1.45 compared to the same period last year.

61 cities increased their export in March

This month, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said that 61 cities have increased their exports, adding that the top 3 exporting provinces are Istanbul with $9 billion, Kocaeli with $1.9 billion, and Bursa with $1.3 billion. Apart from these cities, other provinces, that stand out with the increase in exports are İzmir, which increased its exports by 255 million dollars, Ankara, which increased by 241 million dollars, and Denizli, which increased by 150 million dollars, became. Gülle informed that exports were made to 163 countries with a total of TL 9.8 billion in Turkish Lira and that exports with Turkish Lira increased by 72 percent in March.

18 cities made the highest exports in their history

Stating that as Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), this month, in Denizli, the rising star of exports, the TİM Denizli Assembly program was realized, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, “We consulted with the exporters of our region to increase our exports further in the new period. We observed current developments, problems, and demands by going down to the field. Our exporters have a strong interest in The Export Development Joint Stock Company, which started operations at the beginning of March. IGE A.Ş., which is created by the export family with its resources, will eliminate the collateral problem of our exporter. No exporter will have to guarantee their home, car, or machine to get a loan anymore. On the other hand, our exports continue to increase rapidly in Anatolia. On March, 18 of our cities exported the highest in their history. I congratulate all our cities for this successful performance.”

Saying that they need to increase exports by $2.1 billion every month compared to the previous year to reach the target they set for 2022, which is $250 billion, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said: It is extremely important that the current momentum continues with the rise. At the award ceremony held after the program, plaques were presented to the TİM Sectors Council Members, TİM Supervisory Board Members, Exporters' Union Presidents, and Sector Board Presidents, who provide outstanding services to the Turkish economy and sectors that develop through exports, by the Minister of Trade Mehmet Muş and the Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) İsmail Gülle.
