The Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), the only umbrella organization of 95,000 exporters with 61 exporters unions and 27 sectors in Türkiye, continues to support exporters in the Covid-19 process with the activities of Next Generation Trade Diplomacy. "Furnistry 2020 Virtual Fair", China's first virtual fair was organized in the coordination of the Ministry of Commerce and Turkish Exporters Assembly TİM and with organization of İstanbul Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters Associations, while online opening of the "CIFF 2020 International Furniture Fair", the first physical and national participation fair during the pandemic period in China. In the "CIFF 2020 International Furniture Fair", which was planned between 18-21 March but postponed to July 27-30 due to pandemic, 45 exporter companies will have reached the world through virtual fairs from different locations of Türkiye while exhibiting their products in an area of 4000 square meters. Deputy Minister of Commerce Rıza Tuna Turagay, Turkish Ambassador to Beijing Abdülkadir Emin Önen, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle and İstanbul Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters Association President Ahmet Güleç attended to the opening.
“We continued to be the pioneer of the firsts during the Pandemic period”
Speaking at the opening TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle, pandemic, the world's number one agenda, the importance of digitalization previously realized and pointed out that TİM's digital transformation has been realized. Gülle, added: "We have moved our business to digital with our Digital Transformation Office. With AloTİm Call Center, we respond to the questions and problems of our exporters on a 24/7 basis. With our next generation website and application, we offer our exporters reports on our target markets, news about our markets and current export data. As the Turkish Exporters Assembly, we continued to be the pioneer of the firsts during the pandemic period. We continue our trade diplomacy activities with the first Virtual Trade Delegations, Virtual Fairs, Virtual Awards Ceremonies, Export Talks Meetings and even the virtual competition that we will organize soon. Our Ministry of Commerce has always been by the side of the export family in this whole process and has always supported us. On behalf of our more than 95 thousand exporters, I would like to thank our Ministry for all these supports. As an export family, we are fighting for Türkiye, which is rising with exports, both in the field and in the virtual."
Furniture sector exceeded its exports before pandemic in in June
Stating that the product profile produced and imported by China due to globalization has changed rapidly, Gülle said, "The Turkish exporter has the power to bring the Far East closer, especially with its products that create added value in the furniture sector. Furniture, with exports of $3.5 billion, is among the products we give the highest amount of foreign trade surpluses. In the last 10 years, the export of furniture used in aircraft has increased 65 times, bed base exports have increased 5.5 times and wood-skeletal furniture exports have tripled. Our furniture sector has increased its exports by about 50 percent in June, extending its exports before pandemic. In 2020, we are carrying out the promotion of Turkish Furniture with Video Mapping and Türkiye Furniture Design Promotion projects with our Türkiye Promotion Group. With these projects, we add value to the perception of Turkish furniture brand. We firmly believe that our furniture manufacturers will fold production and export figures with innovative vision in the coming period."
“We have increased our exports to China by 150 percent and this increase will continue exponentially”
İstanbul Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters Association President Ahmet Güleç said, "Today we are holding two firsts together with the 45th International China Furniture Fair CIFF and the opening of the first Furniture Virtual Fair Furnistry 2020. As the national participation of Türkiye, we took our place in this first physical fair of the sector in 4 thousand square meters with our 45 companies. Thankfully the furniture sector carried out the first national participation organization in Türkiye after the epidemic, and here we had the opportunity to show our colleagues from all over the world how strong the Furniture Industry of Türkiye is. Today, our sector, which employs 500,000 people indirectly, is a strategic sector friendly to production, employment and local development. Not only for the domestic market, but for the world markets compared to our sector, which has surpassed many countries such as Spain, Sweden and Denmark, which stand out as a furniture manufacturer in the world, is the 13th largest producer in the world in production of $12 billion.”
“Our exports increased 22-fold in 20 years”
“We are talking about an industry that is production-friendly and possible to increase its added value. We always have opportunity to sell the products we produce with design and brand, added value to high-purchasing markets. We increased our exports 22-fold in 20 years from $160 million to $3.5 billion. Unfortunately, despite our domestic and foreign market sales stopped in March, April and May due to pandemics, we made a quick introduction to June and increased our exports by 48 percent. Our June and July performances show that we will reach about $4 billion this year. We aim to export $3 billion in the short and medium term in the United States, which is one of the major markets. Our strategic roadmap for this is also ready. Likewise, our exports to China continue to increase steadily. Many sectors will also have eyes and ears in the Chinese market. We attribute a special importance to China to get a share of this development. Our exports to China increased by 150 percent compared to June 2019. I hope that after today's organizations, this increase will continue exponentially."
