TİM CHAIRMAN GÜLLE: OUR QUARTERBACK ROLE IS STRENGTHENED BY THE DEFENSE INDUSTRY
Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) continues its Virtual Trade Delegation programs with Azerbaijan and Georgia to reduce the effects of Covid-19 on exports. The virtual landing of the two countries was the 71st Virtual Trade Delegation carried out by TIM and Exporters' Associations.
TİM Chairman Gülle said, “Our exports to Azerbaijan exceeded $ 2 billion in 2020 with an increase of 805 percent from $230 million in 2000. The sector where our exports to the sister country increased the most was in the Defense and Aviation sector with a 194 percent increase and $261 million. In the first 4 months of this year, exports of this sector increased by 1233.8 percent compared to the same period last year to reach $117.3 million. Our achievements in the Defense Industry strengthen our role as quarterbacks in geopolitical terms by strengthening the strength of our country. With the experiences, we have gained during this period and the innovative steps we have taken we will hopefully reach a figure that is higher than our target and we will export 200 billion dollars this year.”
Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Turkish exporters achieve historic successes by breaking export records every month. While Türkiye's exports became $ 18 billion 985 million, reaching the highest monthly export figure in the history of the Republic, with an increase of 42.2 percent, the export family signed the highest exports figure in the history of the Republic with 18 billion 766 million dollars in April. It is expecting that the export family, which flies the Turkish flag all around the world, exceed its export target of $184 billion in 2021.
Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), the only umbrella organization of 100,000 exporters with 61 exporter associations and 27 sectors, is also working at full speed to achieve its export and 'Türkiye With Foreign Trade Surplus' target. In this context, TİM will create opportunities for new collaborations and sales to participating companies in Azerbaijan and Georgia, which will increase export figures in two countries, organized a Virtual Trade Delegation program.
Opening of the program, which was organized by TİM in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce, was made by Deputy Minister of Commerce Reza Tuna Turagay, Turkish Ambassador to Baku Cahit Bagcı, Turkish Ambassador to Tbilisi Fatma Ceren Yazgan, and TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle. Azerbaijan-Georgia Virtual Trade Delegation became the 71st Virtual Trade Delegation, which was held as TİM and Exporters' Associations.
“This year, we will hopefully export $200 billion”
emphasizing that in his speech at the opening of the program, they attach great importance to bilateral trade with neighbors, especially with countries in the near geography as Turkish Exporters Assembly, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, “Because, instead of globalization, the tendency towards regionalization is gaining more importance in the world. The most obvious example of this situation was the signing of the world's largest trade partnership in November last year. So much so that with this agreement, we see that 30 percent of the world's population and gross domestic product meet under one roof. We must ensure regional development through the cooperation we will carry out in our near geography. Only in this way can we get our share of the transformation in supply chains. We are now talking about normalization in all areas, and with the effect of vaccination, we anticipate that restrictions will be lifted in all areas in the coming months. Hopefully, we will start our physical delegations later in the year. We will continue our delegations both physically and digitally. With the experiences, we have gained during this period and the innovative steps we have taken we will hopefully reach a figure that is higher than our target and we will export 200 billion dollars this year."
“Our country's business-people have about 4,000 companies in two countries”
Noting that Türkiye has a long history with Azerbaijan and Georgia and deep-rooted relations in all areas, Gülle said, " Although the total population of the two countries is around 14 million, we know that these countries provide access to a wide market. In addition, the ability to travel between 3 countries only by ID is an important opportunity for us to observe the market on site. Our country's businesspeople have about 4,000 companies in two countries. That is a pretty big number. These companies make significant contributions to the economy of all three countries. In the coming period, I firmly believe that the cooperation established with both countries will continue to strengthen."
"We are the largest trading partner of Georgia and the second-largest trading partner of Azerbaijan"
Stating that exports to the two countries have increased significantly in the last 20 years, Gülle said: “Our exports to Azerbaijan exceeded $ 2 billion in 2020 with an increase of 805 percent from $ 230 million in 2000.
